A preview of the matchup
The Browns enter the matchup looking to leave an offseason full of storylines in the rearview mirror. Coming off a three-win campaign where they averaged a league-worst 15.2 points per game, Cleveland has the perfect opportunity to send a strong message in the AFC North with a surprise victory over the high-powered Bengals.
Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco leads an offense filled with question marks, including running back Jerome Ford and tight end David Njoku running it back in their respective positions. Jerry Jeudy has taken over the WR1 after a phenomenal 1,100-yard season in 2024.
Myles Garrett, the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, anchors a defense looking to return to their dominant form from that year. Dynamic first-year linebacker Carson Schwesinger and rookie defensive tackle Mason Graham will take the field for their NFL debut.
The Bengals, led by quarterback Joe Burrow and superstar wide receiver and triple crown winner Ja’Marr Chase, are looking for a strong start to what they believe can be deep playoff push this season.
Rising playmaker Chase Brown will anchor the ground game, while reigning Defensive Player of the Year and sack leader Trey Hendrickson is back in the mix to anchor the defense.
Cincinnati began last year 0-3, which ultimately kept the Bengals just out of reach of the postseason at 9-8 overall.
Burrow holds a 3-5 career record against the Browns. While that may be concerning, it’s his first couple games each season that usually become tricky. He is 8-11-1 as a starter in his career from Weeks 1-4, including 13 interceptions.
