The first month of the Premier League season has been and gone, and it's time to decide which of these four stars will win our Player of the Month award for August.
We kick-started the season with two wins from three games, defeating Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford and winning 5-0 at home to Leeds United.
We’ve whittled the prospects down to these four contenders for you to select from:
jurrien timber
--------------
Jurrien Timber marked his first start of the season in style in our 5-0 victory over Leeds United. Our Dutch defender opened the scoring when he nodded home Declan Rice's corner. Just before half-time, he assisted Bukayo Saka with an inch-perfect through ball. Jurrien rounded off his perfect afternoon with a second goal from close range.
He became only the second Arsenal defender to register 3+ goal involvements in a Premier League match, with Nacho Monreal the other. He was also the first defender to both score and assist in the same Premier League match for us since Cedric Soares against Everton in May 2022.
gabriel
-------
After his 2024/25 season was curtailed by a hamstring injury, Gabriel has come back with a Who bang, slotting seamlessly back into our defensive line for the first three games of the season.
Big Gabi, who signed a contract extension in the summer, has played every minute of the season, helping us concede the joint fewest number of goals in the league so far, keeping clean sheets in the victories over Manchester United at Old Trafford and Leeds United at Emirates Stadium.
riccardo calafiori
------------------
Riccardo Calafiori started every match at left-back in August, scoring our first goal of the season as he headed home from close range to defeat Manchester United.
The Italian was a constant threat in the home victory against Leeds, providing an assist for Viktor Gyokeres' first goal in red with a ball over the top of the visitors' backline. Riccy also showed off his defensive skills when coming up against last season's Premier League Golden Boot winner, Mo Salah, in our match against Liverpool at Anfield.
martin zubimendi
----------------
Martin Zubimendi joined us in July from Real Sociedad and has played every minute of our opening three matches in the Premier League.
The metronomic midfielder has the second-highest number of successful passes in the squad so far, as well as the joint second-highest number of passes in the final third (22). In addition, no player in our squad has carried the ball further in the opening three games (450m), with Martin producing 42 carries in that time.
