Carlo Ancelotti gave him a Real Madrid shot, now Xabi Alonso sends him packing

It was obvious to all Real Madrid fans that the biggest issue with the team last season was the defense. The team was leaking in goals for fun every week, which cost the team key results and was the contributing factor to Real missing out on major silverware.

Along with an overall drop in form from a number of defensive players, the backline was riddled with injuries which was the main reason for Real's leaky defense. Injuries to Ferland Mendy, Dani Carvajal, and David Alaba forced Carlo Ancelotti to rely on players he wouldn't normally call on.

One of those players being Castilla center-back Raul Asencio. The 22-year-old was thrown into the fire and became one of Ancelotti's starting central defenders alongside Antonio Rudiger and to the surprise of all Real Madrid fans, Asencio had a standout season.

The Spaniard showed that he has the talent and mentality to become a top player for Real Madrid, and after his showing last season, many fans expected the same. However, after the arrival of new manager Xabi Alonso, his role in the team has drastically changed and his future at Real Madrid is now up in the air.

Real Madrid's star defender of last season could be on his way out soon

As being reported by AS, Turkish giants Besiktas are eyeing a loan move for center-back Raul Asencio as they look to strengthen their defense following the sacking of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

As mentioned earlier, Asencio has had a tough start to life under Xabi Alonso. He was sent off in his first match under the new manager during this summer's Club World Cup, and that was pretty much the beginning of the end for Asencio.

Since then he has seen the bench more than he's seen the pitch. Asencio seems to be the fourth choice center-back behind Dean Huijsen, Eder Militao, and Antonio Rudiger and doesn't seem to be part of Xabi Alonso's plans which has led to speculation surrounding his future.

Given that Turkey is one of the few nations who's transfer window is still open, and a number of big name European players are heading to Turkey, Asencio could be the next to make that step. Galatasaray and Fenerbahce has made some marquee moves this summer and after a somewhat up and down summer Besiktas are looking to catch up to their bitter rivals.
