Former Leeds United player breaks silence on failed transfer

A former Leeds United star endured a difficult transfer deadline day.

Leeds United experienced an underwhelming end to what had been a productive summer transfer window as the Whites failed to add further new faces to their squad on deadline day earlier this week.

Ten new faces had arrived at Elland Road at a combined cost of around £100 million as the Whites hierarchy backed manager Daniel Farke in the aftermath of last season’s Championship title win. The likes of Lucas Perri, Anton Stach and Noah Okafor were all added to the promotion winning squad throughout a hectic summer. However, there was a desire to add another attacking option to the Whites ranks within the final hours of the window and despite several players being linked, no such deal was forthcoming.

The strongest links appeared to be with Fulham winger Harry Wilson and there was confidence within Elland Road that a deadline beating deal could be secured. Despite a deal sheet being reportedly submitted to the Premier League, the Cottagers opted against allowing the Wales international to make the switch and he remained part of Marco Silva’s squad.

There were also links with a permanent move for former loan signing Manor Solomon throughout the summer - although the YEP understands such a move was not on the agenda as the Whites prepared for their big return to the top flight. However, Solomon was the subject of ongoing speculation regarding a move away from Tottenham Hotspur and the Israel international spent most of deadline day moving towards a move to a Premier League rivals before that move fell through and rival interest from La Liga club Villarreal progressed into a loan switch to Spain.

Speaking about a busy deadline day, he told Sports Walla: “Those were the craziest 24 hours I’ve had in football. I left London around six in the morning knowing that I was staying at Tottenham, and when I landed, chaos began until midnight. In normal situations, you think more, analyse and talk to whoever you need to, but yesterday it was different and quick decisions had to be made. I kept saying that my goal was to stay in England. I was supposed to stay. I was already close to Crystal Palace, but if I’m going to an amazing place like Villarreal, which plays in the Spanish league, which is the second best, a strong team, I’m very happy.”
