Forward Shea Lacey made his first-ever start for Manchester United U21s in their 1-1 draw with PFA XI in a behind-closed-door friendly game at Carrington on Wednesday afternoon.
Lacey debuted in the Premier League 2 victory over Manchester City on Sunday and assisted Amir Ibragimov’s winning goal in the clash. Ibragimov also captained United U21s in today’s game.
Coach Travis Binnion made several changes to the side that started against City, with only Will Murdock, Jayce Fitzgerald and Sam Mather keeping their places in the starting XI.
Conor Wickham opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a moment of brilliance, spotting Murdock off his line before sending a long ball over him and into the net.
The former Sunderland striker nearly doubled their advantage just before the half-hour mark but was denied by Murdock’s brilliant stop.
Lacey almost restored parity on 34 minutes, showing quick feet in a tight place before sending his strike just wide of the post.
The 18-year-old showed why coach Travis Binnion has suggested that he could become a top player by scoring a brilliant goal to give United the equaliser before the end of the first half.
He collected a loose ball from the corner on the edge of the area and bent it into the net.
Shea Lacey the standout performer for United U21s today. He's made something happen everytime he's been on the ball and scored a brilliant goal. Not looked out of place at all against a team full of professionals ?#mufc

Lacey was substituted after the hour mark, which affected United’s momentum. However, Jariyah Shah and James Bailey had the chance to score the winner but could not hit the target.
Summer signing Diego Leon also debuted for Man United U21s in the fixture. He featured for the first team during the pre-season but has yet to make his competitive debut.
Binnion’s side have enjoyed a strong start, sitting joint-top with Chelsea in Premier League 2 after three straight wins.
