Manchester United are set to hold talks with Carlos Baleba in the coming weeks, following their previous enquiry about the Brighton and Hove Albion star. Over the summer transfer window, United expressed interest in signing the defensive midfielder shortly after they secured the services of Benjamin Sesko.
Brighton quickly made it clear to Ruben Amorim's side that Baleba was not on the market, and it wasn't long before United informed their Premier League counterparts that they would not be pursuing a move. However, their interest is expected to be revived in the future.
The Athletic reported after the transfer window closed that United had agreed personal terms with Baleba for a move to Old Trafford. However, Brighton's minimum valuation of £115m reportedly deterred them.
United ultimately chose not to sign a new midfielder before Monday's deadline, instead bringing in goalkeeper Senne Lammens. Despite rumours about his future, Baleba has remained highly professional and started all three of Brighton's league games.
The midfielder is currently away with Cameroon for their World Cup qualifying double-header against Eswatini and Cape Verde. Upon his return to England, the 21 year old will rejoin the Brighton squad for a busy September.
Fabian Hurzeler's squad is set to face Bournemouth, Tottenham, Chelsea and Wolves in the league, as well as Barnsley in the Carabao Cup before the next international break. After the October pause in domestic football, United are set to welcome Baleba to Old Trafford on October 25.
This match will provide Amorim with his first opportunity to see Baleba in action this season, following a challenging trip to rivals Liverpool the previous week. Baleba will have another opportunity to impress United and Amorim on the final day of the season in May when the reverse fixture takes place.
There is a chance that United return with their interest in the January transfer window. Amorim currently only has four midfielders after deciding to keep Kobbie Mainoo at the club.
