The world’s largest illegal sports streaming platform, Streameast, has been shut down following a year-long investigation, according to a leading U.S.-based anti-piracy organization.
The Athletic reports that the network, which operated through 80 unauthorized domains, attracted a total of 1.6 billion visits over the past year. Streameast offered free access to global sports events, including Europe’s top football leagues such as the Premier League and Champions League, as well as NFL, NBA, and MLB games.
Streameast reportedly received more than 136 million monthly views, with the majority of traffic coming from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Philippines, and Germany.
Since its launch, Streameast had dominated the illegal streaming market. Following the shutdown, law enforcement agencies in the United Arab Emirates and Egypt uncovered a shell company tied to the site’s owners.
The company is alleged to have earned $6.2 million in revenue from the network, with additional funds reportedly held in cryptocurrency and real estate.
