Manchester United’s next chance to sign players will be January as Ruben Amorim prepares for their upcoming Premier League fixtures

Manchester United ended up having a busy transfer window this summer with plenty of comings and goings. The Red Devils delved into the market to snap up the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko to bolster their ranks. The market shut on Monday and they are now stuck with what they have got until January, unless they signed any free agents.

Ruben Amorim was picked as their replacement for Erik ten Hag during last season. Prior to his move to Old Trafford, he caught the eye at Sporting Lisbon. His side won 3-2 at home to Burnley in their last game before the international break.

Manchester United plot big money Carlos Baleba move

According to TEAMtalk, United are willing to ‘break records’ to sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba in 2026. They will have to spend over £100million to lure the player to the North West. The Red Devils would have to spend more than they have ever done before to get their man.

The 21-year-old, who is a Cameroon international with seven caps under his belt, has been a key player at the AMEX Stadium over recent times. He is being tipped for a bright future in the game. However, the Seagulls could face a battle to keep him down the line amid attention from elsewhere.

Baleba joined Brighton in 2023 and he hasn’t looked back since. He has adapted with ease to life in England and has made 81 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with four goals. He is under contract in Sussex until 2028 meaning Fabian Hürzeler’s side are under no pressure to sell him anytime soon and can wait for the right offer to come in for his services before they even consider letting him depart.

Would Carlos Baleba suit Manchester United?

If United signed Baleba, he would be a great option for them in the middle of the park. He would give them more competition and depth in that department. In addition, he has proved himself at the top level and has genuine quality.

He started his career as a youngster at EF Brasseries du Cameroun. Lille then swooped in for him and he initially became an important member of their B team squad. He subsequently made the step up into their first-team and 23 matches, 19 of which came in Ligue 1, before Brighton took a gamble on him. When they do eventually sell him on, they are likely to pick up a hefty profit on him.

Pundit Alan Shearer delivered his verdict on Baleba after he helped the Seagulls beat Manchester City back in November, as per BBC Sport: "He [Baleba] came on and got among them. He showed energy, aggression and he got rattled them. Brighton were a completely different team in the second half and it started because of him, he played on the front foot. They should have scored four or five. He was absolutely wonderful. He changed the tempo and performance on the front foot and defensively.”
