Newcastle United’s squad for the 2025/26 Champions League season has been confirmed by UEFA ahead of the start of the competition.

The Magpies had up until yesterday to submit their squad of up to 25 players on ‘List A’. As a minimum eight of those places have to be taken up by ‘locally trained players’.

There is also a ‘List B’ of players, but they only have to be submitted a day before any of the matchdays. The ‘B List’ is usually for players under the age of 21. Lewis Hall and Lewis Miley fall under this category, meaning that they are not included in the A list.

There are, however, two senior players to miss out on the Champions League squad. They are third choice goalkeeper John Ruddy and centre-back Jamaal Lascelles, who wore the captain’s armband during the previous Champions League campaign

Due to Newcastle having no ‘club trained’ players on their A list, it means the club are restricted to being able to name only 21 instead of 25 players on the list submitted to UEFA, causing the decisions to be made over Ruddy and Lascelles.

New signings Nick Waltemade and Yoane Wissa have both been included on the list as they look to make an impact for the club on the European stage.

Newcastle kick off their Champions League campaign in style later this month when they host Barcelona at St James’ Park (September 18, 8pm), They then face Union Saint-Gilloise (A), Benfica (H), Athletic Club (H), Marseille (A), Bayer Leverkusen (A), PSV (H) and PSG (A).

Newcastle United Champions League squad: Nick Pope, Aaron Ramsdale, Kieran Trippier, Sven Botman, Fabian Schar, Malick Thiaw, Emil Krafth, Tino Livramento, Dan Burn, Joelinton, Sandro Tonali, Joe Willock, Bruno Guimaraes, Jacob Ramsey, Yoane Wissa, Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes, William Osula, Anthony Elanga, Jacob Murphy, Nick Woltemade
