The Green Bay Packers are all the rage right now after swinging a blockbuster trade to acquire Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys, but are the Packers genuinely Super Bowl contenders?
Most would agree that they are. Their roster is absolutely loaded on both sides of the football, and they won 11 games last year prior to even landing Parsons.
Mike Sando of The Athletic polled executives around the NFL concerning the status of the NFC heading into 2025, and while Green Bay was ranked second in the conference, one exec expressed questions about quarterback Jordan Love.
"The receivers are maybe best in the league, they have a couple good tight ends and they spent some on the O-line," the exec said. "I don't know where their weakness is. Maybe it is the quarterback, but I think he is going to be fine in the end."
To be fair, the executive concluded his statement by saying that he thought Love would be alright, but there is no doubt that the 26-year-old is under the microscope going into what is only his third full season as Packers starting quarterback.
Love took over the reins in 2023 and put together a magnificent second half of the season, leading Green Bay to a surprising playoff appearance. That led to the Packers handing the former first-round pick a four-year, $220 million contract extension.
However, Love did not live up to expectations last season, throwing for 3,389 yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in a very uneven campaign.
It should be noted that the Utah State product missed a couple of games early on due to a knee injury he sustained in Week 1, but even when healthy, it was clear that Love wasn't quite the same player he was in 2023. Chalk it up to a sophomore slump, perhaps, but the jury is still largely out on the signal-caller.
The good news is that Love has arguably the deepest receiving corps in the league at his disposal, plus a dynamic running back in Josh Jacobs.
If Love can elevate his game in 2025, Green Bay may very well punch its ticket to New Orleans in February.
