Former Patriots Super Bowl Champion Safety Announces Retirement

Another integral member of the second half of the 21st century dynasty for the New England Patriots saw his chapter close on Wednesday.

Veteran safety Duron Harmon announced his retirement from the NFL on his Instagram account.

"I want to thank Coach (Bill) Belichick, Mr. (Robert) Kraft and the Patriots for taking a chance on me. Being apart of this organization for seven years was life changing. You guys let me be apart of something that will forever be cemented in history," Harmon wrote regarding the Patriots in his post.

The 11-year defensive back won Super Bowl XLIX, Super Bowl LI and Super Bowl LIII with New England before stops with Atlanta Falcons, Las Vegas Raiders, Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears later in his career.

Harmon earned the nickname "The Closer" during his time with New England for a run of game-sealing interceptions. The most notable pick came against the Baltimore Ravens in the 2014 AFC Divisional round after the Patriots clawed back from a pair of 14-point deficits.

In total, Harmon racked up 17 interceptions during his Patriots tenure, with four more for the Patriots in the postseason. Harmon joined several fellow Rutgers alumni in the New England secondary over the years including Devin McCourty, Jason McCourty and Logan Ryan.
