Exclusive: What Middlesbrough insiders are now saying about Man City loanee Sverre Nypan

Manchester City News can exclusively confirm what Middlesbrough insiders are saying about Citizens loanee Sverre Nypan after his first two weeks at the club.

Man City beat the likes of Arsenal and Aston Villa to sign Nypan from Rosenborg this summer.

The 18-year-old was one of the most highly sought-after players in the world, with many expecting him to reach Erling Haaland-esque levels.

City loaned Nypan out to Middlesbrough this summer in a bid to give him a solid grounding in English football.

GRV Media chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has now shared what Boro insiders have made of the young Norwegian so far.

Sverre Nypan has made ‘fabulous impression’ at Middlesbrough

Graeme Bailey, speaking exclusively to Manchester City News, revealed that Boro have been impressed with Sverre Nypan so far.

The 18-year-old has already acclimatised to life at Boro and in the second tier of English football, which City’s coaches will no doubt be delighted to hear.

“Nypan has made a fabulous impression in his short space of time on Teesside,” said Bailey.

“And that is evidenced by Rob Edwards throwing him on at half-time in the huge game against Sheffield United.

“I am told he has taken to life with Boro like a duck to water – he has been outstanding in everything he has done thus far.

“They are going to ease him in and, with keeping Hayden Hackney at the club, there might not be a huge need to rush him – but he definitely adds some real quality to Boro’s options.”

Boro have enjoyed a great start to the 2025/26 season, winning all four of their Championship games to go top of the table.

Why Manchester City loaned Sverre Nypan out to Middlesbrough

There was no doubt that Nypan needed a loan move away from City this season to get him a bit more experience at a higher level than Rosenborg.

Clubs all across Europe have been familiar with Nypan’s name for a while now, and so there were plenty of requests from overseas to sign him for the season.

However, it was reported in August that Man City were keen on loaning Nypan out to a club in the Championship to get him used to the English style of play and physicality.

Had Nypan joined a club in La Liga, he may not have encountered the same level of physicality as he would have in England’s second tier.

Pep Guardiola views Nypan as a first-team player and, if things continue the way they are, the 18-year-old could work his way into his plans ahead of the 2026/27 season.
