Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has shown Ruben Amorim that he is not resting on his laurels this week despite not being called up for the England squad.

Mainoo's future at United appears to be in serious jeopardy at present after he asked to leave the club on loan last week. The Reds' response to this request was one of defiance with Amorim eager to keep hold of the youngster.

As the window slammed shut on Monday, it was clear the 20-year-old would not be departing Old Trafford and he remains a United player until January at least. Mainoo's urge to depart the north west stemmed from his lack of playing time so far this season.

Despite United not proving themselves to be world beaters so far this season, Mainoo has struggled for minutes. He has also seen his close friend Alejandro Garnacho leave which may have also led him to question his role in the United set-up.

While some players may prove to be a handful after missing out on an exit at the end of the window, Mainoo appears to be keen to get his head down and earn his place in the starting XI. Sharing a post from a training regime at Hale Country Club, Mainoo seems keen to keep his fitness levels high ahead of the Premier League's return.

After missing out on a call-up to the England squad, Mainoo will be on a reduced schedule this week before hitting the ground running next week before the Manchester derby. Whether this alone will earn the midfielder a start against Manchester City remains to be seen.

Currently, he is in direct competition with Bruno Fernandes for a starting place which perhaps indicates why he has not been getting the minutes he desires as of yet. The next four months will show whether Mainoo will repeat his brutal decision to request an exit again or not.
