Manchester United failed to convince PL proven star to pick them over top four rival

Manchester United were unable to convince Liam Delap to move to Old Trafford over Chelsea

Liam Delap chose Chelsea in what was a headline move in the recently concluded summer transfer window, and this came even after Manchester United tried warning him about Joao Pedro moving to Stamford Bridge too. This is according to a report by The Athletic, who insist that United were in his ear trying to point out that the Blues were also bringing in Pedro from Brighton and hence he should rather consider a move to Old Trafford, but that didn’t work.

Delap ended up backing himself and backed the project that the West Londoners have undertaken, and he made the move anyway. When he moved, Delap was sold on being Chelsea’s leading #9, and fair play to him that he didn’t let United’s scare tactics change his mind. But then came in Pedro, and suddenly there were a lot of question marks about Delap’s presence in that dressing room at the Bridge.

United tried… but Delap ended up still picking the Blues over an Old Trafford move

Manchester United were unable to convince Liam Delap to move to Old Trafford over Chelsea.

United tried to sign Delap from under Chelsea’s nose last summer.

The message from the chiefs at Carrington was simple: Joao Pedro is going to be there too, and you will be stuck behind him on the bench as an understudy. Move to United instead, and you will be leading the line at M16. But Delap didn’t bite those words, and he ended up trusting Chelsea’s vision for him.

Given how Delap played for Ipswich Town last season, he has got that ability to lead the line long-term, with his physical attributes suiting the ask of the English top tier. And at the moment it does look like Chelsea see the future in him; he is not just another body up front at Stamford Bridge.

Sesko has better movement and goal scoring instinct than Hojlund

Sesko has better ceiling than Delap.

Man United tried to sign Delap, but that didn’t happen, but it was maybe a blessing in disguise for the Reds given how Ruben Amorim & Co. ended up signing Benjamin Sesko instead as the lead number nine, and while the latter has not proven his credentials in the English top tier, he definitely has a ceiling bigger than Delap and can go on to dominate the English top tier for years to come.
