Breathe a sigh of relief, Eagles fans. There will be extra SEPTA trains running for Thursday night’s season opener against the Dallas Cowboys, after all.
FanDuel will sponsor SEPTA’s 10 additional express trains to the Eagles game, shuttling thousands of people to and from the South Philadelphia sports complex on Thursday.
FanDuel, the sports betting platform, will also cover the cost of fares for fans leaving Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles announced on Wednesday.
Last month, SEPTA cut its additional sports service as a part of overall 20% service cuts. The agency faces a $213 million budget deficit they’re relying on the state government to help fill.
The Eagles previously issued a travel advisory for Thursday’s game, urging fans to arrive early and carpool in anticipation of a reduction in the Broad Street Line service.
Now, the extra service on Thursday will be up and running thanks to the FanDuel sponsorship.
“We appreciate FanDuel and SEPTA for collaborating to help provide Eagles fans with convenient transportation to-and-from our home opener,” Eagles president Don Smolenski said in a statement. “Their generous support will assist fans in getting to Lincoln Financial Field so that we can all enjoy the Championship Moment together as we take on the division rival Dallas Cowboys.”
“SEPTA is grateful to FanDuel for stepping up with this sponsorship to restore Sports Express service for the Eagles home opener,” said Scott A. Sauer, General Manager, SEPTA. “This is a challenging time for SEPTA and our customers, but this partnership will ensure that Eagles fans have safe, clean, and reliable service to-and-from the game – and with the added bonus of free rides home.”
