Angel Reese casts doubt on her future with Sky

The Chicago Sky are 9-30 entering play Wednesday, and that is not sitting well with Angel Reese.

Reese fired a public warning to the organization in a new interview, suggesting that improvements need to be made to the roster in free agency. She made clear that if things do not turn around, she would have to look into playing for a different team.

“I’m not settling for the same s— we did this year,” Reese [told Julia Poe of the Chicago Tribune](https://www.chicagotribune.com/2025/09/03/chicago-sky-angel-reese-free-agency/). “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me.

“I am very vocal about what we need and what I want. I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me. But while I am here, I’m going to try to stay open-minded about what I have here and maximize that as much as I can.”

Reese added that she is willing to recruit free agents to the Sky, though she added that it would require a “leap of faith” for a star player to want to join the organization.

Reese spoke out ahead of a loaded free agent class, which is probably not coincidental. She has a three-year contract and a team option with Chicago that will likely keep her tied to the organization through 2027. That might also be a deadline for the organization to show some progress, at least based on these quotes.

Reese’s critics would argue that she could stand to play better before being so demanding. She is averaging 14.6 points and 12.6 rebounds per game, though critics have argued that the rebound number in particular [is the product of some stat-padding](https://larrybrownsports.com/baseball/angel-reese-responds-mocked-john-kruk/709797).

After losing just eight total games in two seasons with LSU, Reese has seen her team go a combined 22-47 since she entered the league. It’s no wonder her tolerance for losing is as low as it is.
