It's possible Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will easily break two records in the team's opening game.

Buckle up, because the Kansas City Chiefs will set off on their 2025-26 season very soon, and Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Andy Reid and the rest of the crew are ready to show everyone who’s boss. While the Kansas City Chiefs have a lot of strengths on their roster, probably the biggest is Mahomes, who has helped them win multiple championships, all under the age of 30.

The season is just starting, but Mahomes is already close to notching some major milestones and breaking NFL records. How cool would it be to see him break these records on the first game of the season?

The Kansas City Chiefs’ first game of the regular season is Friday, September 5, against the Los Angeles Chargers, and it will take place at the Corinthians Arena in Brazil. Yes, we’re trying to get the entire world in on the excitement of American football. It’s possible Mahomes will easily break two records in that game.

Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs and His Record-Breaking Chances

So, what records may Mahomes break in Game 1? According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, Mahomes may break two passing touchdown records on Friday evening against the Los Angeles Chargers, stating, “Mahomes has 291 touchdown passes in his NFL career (245 in the regular season and 46 in the postseason), and can break the records both for the most in his first nine NFL seasons and for the most before turning 30 years old.”

Smith also said that current record for a player’s most touchdown passes in their first nine seasons is with the great Peyton Manning, who tossed 293 touchdowns in his first nine years in the NFL. Mahomes would requite just two passing touchdowns to tie the record and three to break Manning’s record, a record that Manning has held since 2006.

Another NFL Record Destined for Mahomes

So, that’s one record that Mahomes could snag on Friday. As for the other, Smith stated, “Mahomes’ 245 regular-season touchdown passes are tied with Dan Marino for the most by any player before turning 30. Mahomes turns 30 on September 17, so he needs to throw just one touchdown pass in either Week One or Week Two to move ahead of Marino and own the record by himself.”

So, it’s totally possible, even likely that Mahomes will be able to make history early in the season. If Mahomes throws for at least one touchdown pass in the team’s first two games this season, he’ll pass Dan Marino in that later statistic. It’s would be difficult to not see that happen.

Meanwhile, the NFL has released their roster of the best players in the league going into the 2025-26 season, and Mahomes made the top 10. That’s the good news, but what’s surprising is who he’s behind on the roster. Michael Baca of the NFL’s website has released his top 10 players in the league, and he puts Mahomes at No. 5.

“Mahomes posted career-low numbers in his seventh season as a starter, but the respect he garners from his peers maintains a top-10 ranking within the Top 100 — a streak that began in 2019 after his first year as Chiefs QB1,” Baca says in the piece.

Now, let’s get Mahomes up to No. 1 this season. It all starts against the Chargers in Brazil.
