An anonymous Giants staffer took a shot at cornerback Deonte Banks
The New York Giants are gearing up for the start of the 2025 season, and the vibe surrounding the team is a bit unique. After a rough 2024 campaign, the hope is that this can be the year where the Giants begin to place the building blocks for their next playoff-contending squad. Unless something crazy happens, New York isn’t expected to have a great shot of competing for the postseason in a loaded NFC East division.
With a slew of new faces in town, the Giants will be looking to answer some big questions at the start of the season. One of those is what the cornerback position will look like, as Deonte Banks and Cor’Dale Flott are listed as co-starters alongside Paulson Adebo. Ahead of the new season, one anonymous Giants staffer took a shot at Banks, with his comments sure to catch the attention of New York’s fanbase.
Giants Staffer Bashes Deonte Banks
The Giants selected Banks with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and he enjoyed a solid rookie season, racking up 64 tackles, two interceptions, and 11 pass deflections in 15 games of action. However, he wasn’t able to build off of that last year, with his stagnant progression being another in a long list of issues for New York.
Entering training camp, the hope was that Banks would firmly establish himself as a starting cornerback, but he never managed to do that. Instead, Adebo has been the top option, with Flott seriously challenging Banks for his job. Heading into Week 1, it seems like head coach Brian Daboll may split their reps and see who performs better.
Considering the high billing Banks entered the league with, and the promise he showed as a rookie, it’s been disappointing to see him struggle to lock down a starting job. According to one Giants staffer, the problem is with the player himself, as the staffer claimed that Banks needs to “grow up” in order for him to truly find success in the NFL.
“Does the player even feel responsible for people losing their jobs?” the Giants staffer asked, per Jason La Canfora of The Washington Post. “A lot of people got burned by him. The kid really needs to grow up.”

The Giants’ situation with Banks is obviously less than ideal, but they still have time to figure out what to do with him. The hope is that his competition with Flott will light a fire underneath him, and while that hasn’t happened yet, he could show up once the real games start. The question is whether or not he will do enough to earn snaps over Flott.
New York has to make a decision on Banks’ fifth-year option at the end of the 2025 campaign, and chances are this season will solely determine what avenue the team chooses here. So far, things haven’t worked out for Banks with the Giants, and he could find himself out of a starting job if he doesn’t perform well to begin the new year.
