Kyler Murray-Marvin Harrison Jr. connection ‘day and night’ from year ago

TEMPE — The connection between Kyler Murray and Marvin Harrison Jr. left a lot to be desired in 2024.

The touchdowns were there. The consistency was not, behind a 53% catch rate. Safe to say there was a lot of yards and receptions left out on the field.

It wasn’t for a lack of talent but instead centered around their limited time on task together and getting the rookie out of his shell.

But after an offseason and training camp spent building their connection and chemistry, the communication and understanding between K1 and WR1 “are in a great place.”

“Me and Marv are in a great place. Honestly, night and day from when we drafted him to now.”

“I think as a rookie he might have been scared of me. I don’t know. … We had to go through the fire kind of to get that relationship to keep going and keep making strides off the field that way we could, you know, feel each other on and off the field as far as what he’s thinking and what I’m thinking.

“But me and Marv are in a great place. Honestly, night and day from when we drafted him to now. He’ll start conversations with me. I don’t got to beg him to talk to me or anything like that. I love where we’re at. Now it’s just time to go execute.”

While Murray can utilize other weapons — see Trey McBride’s monster season in 2024 — the connection between the signal caller and Harrison is one of the biggest must-haves in a season where the current regime’s vision must translate to double-digit wins and a playoff berth.

If Harrison can truly make that Year 2 leap many expect him to, paired with a more consistent connection with Murray and a bulked-up frame, the offense opens up that much more for Arizona’s other playmakers.

Defenses having to keep an extra eye on Harrison opens up the door that much more for McBride, running back James Conner and others to gash the defense through the air or on the ground.

“We got to be on the same page constantly,” Harrison said Wednesday. “Just the depth of the routes, what spot he expects you to be at. All that kind of factors into (continuing to build chemistry with Murray).

“I think we kind of have more similar personalities, but I’m definitely more reserved,” the wideout added. “It kind of takes me a while to get out of my shell a little bit, but definitely should be a lot better now. Not that it was bad before, but I was a little quiet there.”

But for as much as the duo continue to preach consistency, Murray is looking for it across the board offensively in 2025.

“I want to be the best offense in the league.”

“We’ve shown flashes, but I want to be the best offense in the league,” Murray said.

Getting their connection fully on track is a good place to start.
