It is well-known that former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is the greatest head coach of all time.
He coached the greatest quarterback of all time, Tom Brady, for much of their legendary careers and played a huge role in Brady getting his own statue outside of Gillette Stadium. Belichick undoubtedly should be the next in line for a statue and according to Patriots owner Robert Kraft, that will be coming in the future.
"When that great 20-year era ended, it was always my intention to commission a statue for Tommy and Bill," Kraft told Dan Roche of WBZ Boston Sports. "When Bill's coaching career ends, we look forward to sitting down with him and having a statue made to be right next to Tommy."
The announcement from Kraft was no surprise. The dominance and success that he and Brady had while with the Patriots was nearly unprecedented and may only be matched by the head coach/quarterback combination of Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.
Belichick's tenure in New England obviously did not end well, as the team missed the playoffs in three of Belichick's final four seasons. He took a year off from coaching before taking the head coaching job at the University of North Carolina.
It is unclear how long Belichick plans on staying at UNC and with a buyout of just $1 million, the Tar Heels can easily move on if they feel change is needed. Either way, regardless of how long Belichick stays in the college ranks, he will be given a well-deserved ceremony and statue unveiling when the time for that arrives.
