Leeds United handed huge Mateo Joseph boost as transfer deal confirmed

Leeds United were very active in the latter days of the transfer window, especially when it came to moving players. The Whites spent most of the early part of the window finalizing arrivals.

Leeds brought in 10 new faces into the squad as they prepared for life in the Premier League. The defence and midfield saw significant upgrades, but the attack lacked firepower. Daniel Farke complained about this, and asked for reinforcements. Leeds only managed to sign Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and failed to bring in another player on deadline day.

The first few games of the season have shown how badly the club need an attacker who can stick the ball into the net. So far, Joel Piroe, Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have shown that they cannot be relied upon to do that consistently.

Daniel Farke made his first team plans clear by the start of training camp; some players had already been informed of their futures. Mateo Joseph refused to join camp as he asked for a transfer. It looked like he was set for a move to Real Betis, but the deal was off when the La Liga side failed to meet the asking price.

Higher ups at the clubs then chose a loan move to Mallorca for the young forward. Joseph has since featured in three games, even starting against Real Madrid. And the loanee could now see an increase in his role after Mallorca loan striker Cyle Larin out to Feyenoord.

Adam Underwood and Leeds chiefs were very keen on sending Joseph out on loan while they still control his future, as they believe the forward’s value could exponentially increase with exposure.

Move is a win-win for both parties

At the end of the day, everyone gets their wish. Mateo Joseph gets a full season of playing time under his belt, and depending on his performances, Leeds could easily see the youngster’s value rise exponentially. Then the club would have the decision to re-integrate him into the team or sell him for a massive profit.
