Report: Man Utd star receives offer to leave after demanding pay rise

Trabzonspor have submitted an offer for Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, according to StrettyNews.

The Cameroon international has reportedly been offered the chance to end his nightmare Old Trafford spell imminently, with the Turkish club keen to sign Onana on a season-long loan.

The transfer window in Turkey is open until Friday, 12 September, and Trabzonspor are said to be exploring an opportunity to add Onana to their squad before the deadline.

It remains to be seen if the 29-year-old would be open to joining the Super Lig club – he would reportedly only consider an exit if it becomes evident Ruben Amorim is no longer planning to use him in goal.

Onana was dropped by Amorim for United’s first three Premier League games, with his only appearance coming in the shock EFL Cup second-round defeat to Grimsby Town.

Onana is facing an ever tougher fight for first-team minutes following Man United’s signing of Belgium goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who joined on deadline day.

The Old Trafford side were on the lookout for a new shot-stopper after a dire start to the season in goal, with both Onana and Altay Bayindir struggling to convince.

While the chances of offloading Onana are slim now that the summer transfer window is closed for Europe’s top five leagues, INEOS would prefer a permanent departure, though they also realise that would be a big ask in the current circumstances.

The former Inter Milan keeper still has three years left on his contract and recently demanded a pay rise – a move which reportedly did not sit well with Amorim.

Onana received a standardised 25% wage cut following Man United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League in 2023/24 and returned to Carrington this summer seeking a new contract, per reports from The Athletic.

Amorim has since dropped the Cameroonian from his first XI for Bayindir and signed Lammens, who is projected to become Man United’s new No. 1 this term.

Onana made 50 appearances for United in goal last season, keeping 11 clean sheets and conceding 65 goals across all competitions.
