What the Newcastle United starting XI looks like after they signed six players in the summer transfer window.
It was a mad window. There’s literally no other way to describe it. It flitted from the depths of despair to cherry on the top positivity over the course of three long months. One thing is for sure, the manager, like many of us, will be delighted to finally see it close.
Six signings and one significant departure - not sure we want to mention his name yet - as well as plenty of rejections and drama along the way. In fact, that’s disrespect to Sean Longstaff and Martin Dubravka, who were also allowed to depart having done their all for the cause, unlike said significant depature.
Newcastle went into the window - predicted by those at the top to be transformative - needed at least a keeper, centre half, one striker and a right forward. They managed to not only fill all of those, but also add another, much needed frontman, as well as a midfielder.
Jacob Ramsey already looks like a shrewd move, while Nick Woltemade has taken excitement up a notch up. Malick Thaiw remains an unknown quantity at the back, Aaron Ramsdale is a safe pair of hands at the back, (or should I say feet?) and Yoane Wissa is the kind of plug in and play frontman United have needed for a while. Anthony Elanga, although yet to see his best, is undoubtedly rapid on the right!
But where does that leave their starting XI? We took a look and named our strongest starting XI, from the players already at the club - and the ones added.
