Arsenal are poised to create Champions League history during the league phase of the competition.
The Gunners performed above expectations in Europe last term as they reached the last four of the Champions League.
They will aim to go all the way this time around, having spent more than £260 million on eight signings over the summer.
The Gunners confirmed their Champions League squad yesterday, and Max Dowman was picked in the A-List ahead of Gabriel Jesus.
The List B squad comprises players who have ‘locally trained’ at any European club between the ages of 15 and 21, which Dowman was not eligible for.
Arsenal’s 2025/26 Champions League squad for the league phase.
Dowman, described as ‘special‘ by manager Mikel Arteta, could now create Champions League history if he makes an appearance in any of the first six league games of the competition.
Youssoufa Moukoko is the youngest to feature in the Champions League with Borussia Dortmund at the age of 16 years and 18 days in 2020.
Dowman does not turn 16 until December 31. With no age restrictions in the competition, he could make his debut as a 15-year-old this year.
The teenager became the second-youngest Premier League debutant in August. He could now become the youngest-ever to feature in the Champions League.
Arteta has had no qualms in playing Dowman so far. He had a lively debut off the bench against Leeds United, winning a stoppage-time penalty for the Gunners.
In the recent 1-0 loss at Liverpool, the manager picked Dowman to come on as a late substitute while Ethan Nwaneri and Leandro Trossard stayed on the bench.
This demonstrates Arteta’s confidence in the 15-year-old. Dowman could make his first start in the Carabao Cup third round against Port Vale later this month.
