Rio Ferdinand leaves Michael Owen speechless with huge Man Utd prediction‘someone’told him,‘It can’t take…’

Rio Ferdinand stunned former Manchester United and England teammate Michael Owen with one major prediction that he has heard about the Premier League club.

Ruben Amorim has seen some of his Manchester United first-team players depart Old Trafford and head off to represent their respective countries during the break.

The Red Devils were able to sign off their 2025-26 Premier League campaign so far on a high note ahead of the pause for the September international break.

United hosted Burnley at Old Trafford last weekend and the Red Devils secured their first three Premier League points of the new season with a late 3-2 victory.

The Red Devils received a penalty deep into second-half stoppage time and Bruno Fernandes stepped up and dispatched the spot-kick effort to seal the win for United.

Ruben Amorim’s men are ninth in the Premier League table after United’s 3-2 result against Burnley at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils losing once and drawing once.

Rio Ferdinand tells Michael Owen a powerful Man Utd prediction and the Ballon d’Or winner was in disbelief

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, Michael Owen made his position clear that he felt that Manchester United had to win the Premier League title within a decade.

“Man United will win the league in 10 years, won’t they?” Owen asked former United and England teammate Rio Ferdinand.

“I mean, nobody could look at you and say, ‘No chance.’ It could be in four years. It could be in eight. It could be…”

Ferdinand’s reaction was telling to Owen’s prediction after the 46-year-old former United and England defender admitted what one person boldly suggested to him.

“I saw someone today for lunch and they said 20 years,” he responded.

Owen was stunned into disbelief before the former Liverpool and United striker argued that the Red Devils are “too big” to wait that long for a Premier League title.

“It can’t take that long,” he said.

“They’re too big and too… can’t take that long. I mean, it’s already been how long?”

Ferdinand simply added: “12 years.”

Rio Ferdinand and Michael Owen are on different wavelengths about Man Utd’s next Premier League title win

Ferdinand was part of the last United team to lift the Premier League title under legendary ex-Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of the 2012-13 season.

The Red Devils beat Manchester City to the Premier League title in the aforementioned campaign and Sir Alex Ferguson subsequently retired from football management.

United have struggled in the aftermath of Ferguson’s exit from Old Trafford and the Red Devils have faced an uphill battle in climbing back to the top of English football.

Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have already sent a message that their ambition is to see the Red Devils lift a Premier League title after more than a decade without winning one.
