Marc Guehi was close to joining Liverpool on deadline day after a £35m agreement was reached for him to leave Crystal Palace
A £35m agreement had been struck between the clubs with Guehi undergoing his medical as he looked to make the move to Anfield. However, with the Eagles unable to find a replacement, the plug was pulled on the deal.
Guehi remains a target for Liverpool but is said to be attracting interest from other European clubs. Overseas teams are allowed to agree a pre-contract with Guehi from January 1.
Wembley hero Justin Devenny insists Marc Guehi failed transfer move won’t impact Crystal Palace
In an interview with Give Me Sport, Palace star and Northern Ireland international Justin Devenny was asked about Guehi’s failed move to Anfield. He insisted nothing would change as Palace prepare to battle on four fronts this campaign after qualifying for the Europa Conference League.
The Eagles have had a good start to the season, as they won the Community Shield and are unbeaten in their opening three Premier League games. Devenny was the hero for Palace in the Community Shield at Wembley.
After a 2-2 draw with Liverpool, the contest went to penalties. The Reds missed three penalties but Palace had also saw Borna Sosa and Eberechi Eze miss from the spot. Devenny was handed the responsibility of the fifth and final penalty and showed no signs of pressure as he hammered the ball into the top corner from 12 yards.
What Justin Devenny said about Marc Guehi
On Guehi’s transfer saga, the Palace man said: "He was a Crystal Palace player and still is. It's as simple as that. For those of us in the changing room, players and staff, nothing has changed. We'll just be looking to do what we can do. We're in four competitions, so we're looking to get as far in all four of them as we can because we believe that we're good enough.
"Marc is such a great player and such a great leader. He is showing his quality and the goal he scored last weekend against Aston Villa speaks for itself. He is such a good guy. You can see that because of his character and how he has conducted himself in the last few months.
"He is our captain for a reason. He shows his quality, whether that's on the pitch or off the pitch. You can see his quality on the ball and his leadership. He is someone I can look forward to and, it doesn't matter what he is doing, I can learn something from him every single time because he conducts himself in the right manner.
"He is just one of those players that has always got so much to offer. For me, as one of the younger players, he is someone I look to and take as much information as I can."
