Round-robin tournament of 3 teams with 8 players each, including 2 with USA players and 1 with rest of the world will be played on Sunday afternoon of All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles in 2026.
NBA keeps changing its All-Star Game format in order to keep entertainment and viewership of the match.
In previous years, several tweaks were made to the final event of the All-Star Weekend, most recent format was a four-team, single elimination tournament with a target of 40 points scored for each round.
It drew mixed reviews, as players raised some concerns, mainly about breaks between and during games.
As Shams Charania of ESPN reports, NBA and the players' union presented a new proposal, and feedback was positive for it.
New format would consist of 3 different teams with 8 players each, 2 of the teams will have players from the US, whilst one team would be filled with "rest of the world" players.
Per report, all teams would play each other in 12 minute quarter games.
Earlier this year, NBA Commisioner Adam Silver hinted at a possibility of All-Star Weekend getting "international spice", as it will be held on February 15th in Intuit Dome, new LA Clippers arena.
At the same time, 2026 Winter Olympic Games will be held in Milano, and also 2028 Summer Olympic Games will be hosted in Los Angeles, partially in Intuit Dome.
