Davis, 46, will be partnered with Britt Stewart.

Davis played briefly for Cleveland in the 2010-11 season, starting nine of 15 games. Over his career as a guard, he played 13 years for six teams, averaging 16.1 points, 7.2 assists and 1.8 steals. He made the NBA All-Star Game twice. In his post-NBA career he has been a businessman, television producer and entrepreneur.

He told US Weekly he “was a little hesitant” about dancing in front of a lot of people. But he shifted into preparation mode, the magazine said, putting his “anxiety and nervousness” aside.

“I get that as an athlete, before games, before practice, and that just means that, like, I’m readying myself for something,” he said.

Davis is one of two athletes competing for the Mirror Ball trophy this season. Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles is the other.

The season begins 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, on ABC (WEWS).
