The latest Man Utd injury news ahead of the Manchester derby against Man City next week.

The 26-year-old had been selected by his country for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against both Armenia and Hungary, but has now been released from his national side and allowed to return to Manchester for further evaluation. Lazio defender Nuno Tavares has been selected to replace him in the Portugal squad ahead of their first World Cup qualifier against Armenia on Saturday. They then face Hungary on Tuesday before the return to club football.

Dalot has started three of United's four matches across all competitions so far this season and his injury setback will be a huge blow to Ruben Amorim ahead of the Manchester derby against Man City next week. Although he favours a role on the right flank, Dalot offers great versatility and started the weekend win over Fulham as their makeshift left wing-back.

Ruben Amorim will provide a fresh update on Dalot's fitness when he holds his pre-match press conference for the Manchester derby on Friday 12 September.

A statement released by the Portuguese FA on Thursday morning read: "Full-back Nuno Tavares was called up to the National Senior squad this Thursday to replace Diogo Dalot. The international, who plays for Manchester United, complained of muscle discomfort and was released by the Health and Performance Unit.

"Nuno Tavares, 25, a Lazio player, joins the national team in Yerevan, traveling this Thursday from Rome to the capital of Armenia. Portugal begins the qualifying phase for the 2026 World Cup on Saturday, facing Armenia and Hungary on the 9th, in Budapest."

United are still without the injured Lisandro Martinez, while they were also handed fresh injury scares when Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount both suffered issues in the victory over Burnley last weekend.
