Harvey Elliott has been given about as glowing a recommendation as any footballer can have after joining Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old made a deadline day transfer from Liverpool when he moved on loan for the 2025/26 season.

Villa also have an obligation to buy the midfielder for £35million, bringing the curtain down on Elliott’s six-year Anfield career.

In all he made 149 appearances for the Reds and while there were only 18 last term, former team-mate Mo Salah has paid a gushing tribute.

The Reds legend took to social media to post images of him playing and training with Elliott and wrote: “You’ll be remembered for your loyalty and dedication every time you were called upon.

"You leave as a champion, and I’ve got no doubt you’ll do big things at your new club. They are lucky to have you.”

The England under-21 international made a substitute appearance for the Reds in their 1-0 victory over Arsenal in the Premier League last Sunday, which was his last appearance for the club before his deadline day exit.

He has arrived at Villa as one of three deadline day signings, along with Jadon Sancho and Victor Lindelof, and has been given the No. 9 shirt. His debut could come back in Liverpool, away to Everton on September 13.
