Last season’s 6 percent success rate prompted the league to rethink its rules on kickoffs. We might begin to see changes as the NFL season, ahem, kicks off.

The successful onside kick has all but disappeared from the NFL. The league and its competition committee are attempting to restore it this season, if only on a modest basis.
With the 2025 season about to start, we will soon learn whether they have made any progress.
