FC Barcelona have had quite a good 2025 summer transfer window as they were able to overcome their financial difficulties to further strengthen their squad by three new signings, i.e., Joan Garcia, Marcus Rashford, and Roony Bardghji, while also completing the departures of up to 10 players.
However, the closure of the transfer market does not mean an end to the work of the Barcelona Sporting Department, as Deco, as highlighted by SPORT, will still have some important tasks awaiting him.
Frenkie de Jong: Priority for Barcelona

The most pressing case is that of Frenkie de Jong, whose current deal ends in June 2026. After a long standoff involving his former agent, Ali Dursun, and deferred salary disputes, talks are now progressing more smoothly.
De Jong recently appointed Sebastien Ledure as his new representative, and the Belgian agent already met Deco at the Ciutat Esportiva on August 20.
Both parties are aligned on extending the midfielder’s stay, with a renewal until 2029 on the table. However, resolving the issue of De Jong’s deferred wages remains a complication that must be addressed before the agreement can be finalized.
Eric Garcia: Progress Expected

Negotiations with Eric Garcia are at an earlier stage but remain optimistic. The defender, who seriously considered leaving the club twice last season, has found renewed confidence under Hansi Flick, who has used him as both a center-back and right-back in all three official matches so far.
Talks between Deco and the player’s agent, Ivan De la Pena, have already taken place. Garcia’s entourage insists there should be no obstacles to an extension of the contract he signed upon arriving from Manchester City in 2021.
Bernal, Christensen, and Lewandowski

Marc Bernal’s case is already resolved. The young Barcelona midfielder, who recently turned 18, had an automatic extension in place until 2029 following his first-team debut last season. The agreement will soon be made official once he receives medical clearance from a long-term injury, with a return against Valencia possible.
As for Andreas Christensen and Robert Lewandowski, both also under contract until 2026, their futures look less certain.
Christensen, who was close to an exit this summer, is not currently in line for a renewal as of now. Lewandowski’s situation will be assessed later, depending on his performances, market dynamics, and personal plans, with the possibility of a final lucrative move abroad not ruled out.
