Gabriel Jesus has been injured since January with an ACL issue which required surgery.
However, there is one name that has been out for a long period of time: Gabriel Jesus. He missed the second half of last season after suffering an ACL injury in January, and remains in recovery now.
The injury came at a bad time for Jesus as he had just found some form in the Premier League after a slow start to the season. But when can we expect to see the Brazilian striker play for Arsenal again?
Arteta issues Jesus injury hint
Since his surgery, there haven’t been many major updates on Jesus’ recovery; however, manager Arteta may have inadvertently hinted at Jesus’ status, as he has made his initial squad selection for the Champions League.
The campaign begins on September 16 with Arsenal facing a trip to Athletic Bilbao, and Jesus has failed to make Arteta’s 23-man Champions League squad list. This means that he isn’t registered, and so won’t be able to play in any of the league phase matches that run until late January.
Jesus’ absence from Arteta’s squad potentially indicates that he is still several months away from full fitness, as a more recent return would surely warrant the Brazilian with a place in his registered squad. The striker has been out of action for almost eight months now, a fairly common timeline for an ACL injury. But Arteta may have shown that Jesus isn’t close to making a return for the Gunners any time soon.
Could Arsenal sell Jesus in January?
Seeing as Jesus’ Arsenal career has been plagued by injury struggles, the striker may be subject to a move this season, especially as Arsenal signed Victor Gyokeres to be the new first-choice target man.
A move in the January transfer window would seem most likely for Jesus, as it would be expected that he will be fully fit and completely recovered by then, meaning he will be able to pass a medical, however, Arteta could decide to keep him around, especially if Kai Havertz or Gyokeres suffer major injuries.
Jesus’ contract at the Emirates expires in June 2027, so Arsenal would likely want to sell him next summer if he doesn’t leave before then, to ensure he doesn’t leave for free the following summer, so a January transfer could also be on the cards for the 28-year-old.
