England star explains why Aston Villa will soon 'soar' up Premier League table

The England international acknowledged Unai Emery’s men have significant room for improvement after taking just one point from their first three matches, while also failing to score.

But he believes it is only a matter of time before they begin firing.

Speaking about the club’s start to the season on the Talksport Daily podcast, Rogers said: “It has not been easy. I think for different circumstances and different reasons it just hasn’t clicked.

“And that’s OK, that’s fine. It’s only been three games. We know what our level is, we know how good we are and how good we can be.

“It is nothing to worry about but obviously it is still something to look at and improve and to learn from, to see we are not quite at the level and you’ll get punished in the league, no matter who you play.

“We know we will be fine and will soar up the table soon enough, no doubt about it.”

Rogers, currently away with the England squad, will be on familiar ground this Saturday when the Three Lions face Andorra at Villa Park in a World Cup qualifier.

It will be the 10th time the stadium has hosted an England international but the first occasion since a 0-0 draw with the Netherlands more than 20 years ago.

Rogers has been part of every England squad since earning his first call-up last November but the recently named PFA young player of the year has promised not to rest on his laurels.

He said: “There are a lot of players who are probably at home right now with the amount of quality they have thinking they should be sat here and they definitely have a right to be here.

“I don’t think you can ever be cemented. I think you have to know people will always be trying to take your shirt.

“That is the beauty of England football. There are so many people competing and so much quality.

“It is about keeping that shirt. I have been in all the squads, so it is just about maintaining that and showing why I deserve to be picked each time.

“There’s a challenge, a nervousness and an excitement all in one, especially with the World Cup coming up. There is still a long way to go.”
