LeBron James is getting prepared to play in season No. 23 in the NBA. At 40 years old, he hasn’t appeared to have lost a step on the court. As James has progressed through his incredible basketball career, he has made more and more of his personal life and off the court activities public.

Earlier this week, Nike released an ad campaign featuring James, coinciding with his upcoming sneaker release, the Nike LeBron 23, and his “Nike Forever King Tour“. Even with the announcement placing James in China in September, there wasn’t a detailed itinerary made public of James’ tour.

However, social media posts and videos have started to leak onto the internet, as James was spotted in Shanghai, China on Wednesday night into Thursday morning. James was seen on a basketball court at what appears to be Shanghai Jiao Tong University doing something unexpected.

James can be seen, on camera, coming to center court with a basketball, before tossing the ball in the air for a ceremonial tip-off. The two teams can be seen on opposite sides of half-court, in uniform, looking ready for game action.

The video was posted at 3:03 a.m. EDT courtesy of @ShLetsMeet on X. While there isn’t much context to go along with the video of James, the crowd can be heard cheering for James while virtually every person in the stands seems to be recording their own video on their cell phones.

James’ appearance in China is taking place to celebrate 20 years since his first Nike tour of Asia. During the tour, he is connecting with fans, inspiring the next generation of basketball players through the Nike RISE program, and likely unveiling the new Nike LeBron 23 shoe. This trip is his fifteenth to China with Nike, highlighting his commitment to the game’s growth in Asia.

Season No. 23 is officially expected to get under way for James on Tuesday, Oct. 21. James, Luka Doncic, and the Lakers are set to take on Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors at 10 p.m. EDT on opening night of the season on NBC and Peacock.
