The former Barcelona, Milan and Bayern Munich star is out of work after managing another of his former clubs PSV, as well as Wolfsburg and Royal Antwerp.
A glittering playing career has not quite translated into management, winning nothing in his first job at PSV and being sacked after 18 months. He then lost his hob at Wolfsburg after four months.
Things went a bit better in Belgium with a league and cup double in 2023, reaching a second consecutive final the year after before leaving at the end of his contract.

He says there was a possiblity of returning to the dugout with some initial talks held over the Ibrox vacancy in the summer, although it never got to the stage of talking to the board.
The 48-year-old appeared on talkSPORT today and said: “Yeah, there were some talks [to become the manager], but not directly to the board of Rangers.
“I played against them once with PSV. The atmosphere is unbelievable. The Scottish league for me is a good league, and it’s a challenge to become champion and play in Europe.”
