Lamptey ended a five-and-a-half-year stay at the Amex when he joined the Italian team on Monday for £5.2 million plus potential add-ons.
As he prepares for his debut with the Serie A outfit, Marcello Quinto, who worked with De Zerbi at the Amex and has since followed him to Marseille, has spoken about the 24-year-old's upsides and downsides.
He told Radio FirenzeViola, via Football Italia, "Lamptey is first and foremost an exceptional lad, then a very good player.
"The advantage he has over (right-back) Dodo is that he can play on the right and the left, at least he did with us at Brighton. Even if quite small, he has energy and decent pace. He’ll bring a lot to Fiorentina.
"The only big problem over the two years we worked with him is that he had a few too many injury problems. I am sure the Fiorentina fans will appreciate him, because he gives his all to the coach and his teammates."
Indeed, since suffering a hamstring injury for Albion in the 2020/21 season, the former Chelsea youngster has had multiple spells on the sidelines.
The wing-back has struggled with hamstring, knee, calf, ankle, and other muscle injuries - all of which have caused him to miss more than 100 games.
Quinto added, "He’s very instinctive, but definitely cannot play in central roles. He can be a full-back or a wing-back in a five-man midfield, because he guarantees energy.
"He’s very similar to Dodo, but they also have different characteristics, as he’s stronger in defence. Dodo is better when getting to the by-line and making the final decision on the pass."
Lamptey, who has signed a four-year deal with Fiorentina, scored five goals and added 12 assists in 122 appearances for Albion.
