Julian Edelman reveals favorite game played for Patriots

Julian Edelman played in 156 games between the regular season and the playoffs for the New England Patriots.

But there’s one that sticks out the most: The 2018 AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

During a recent appearance on “The Quick Snap” podcast with Brian Hoyer and David Andrews, Edelman said he was “so damn sick and tired” of hearing then-coach Bill Belichick talk about the 2006 team winning the AFC Divisional game on the road, and hearing the narrative that the current Patriots couldn’t win away from Gillette Stadium.

Edelman and the Patriots put an end to that narrative with a 37-31 win over Kansas City. Tom Brady went on to win his sixth Super Bowl and quieted the chatter that he was too old and that he wasn’t going to be able to beat a young Patrick Mahomes.

“They were the sexy, young, fast, fun team,” Edelman said of the Chiefs. “And we were the old team that no one talked about. We were dog crap throughout the whole season. ‘Oh, they don’t have the guys, they don’t have the receivers, they don’t have the linemen, they don’t have the team, and Tom’s too old.’”

The Chiefs scored 24 points in the fourth quarter to force overtime in the AFC Championship Game. But a Rex Burkhead touchdown sent New England to the Super Bowl and silenced a stunned Arrowhead Stadium.

“They had a great atmosphere. I mean, the Chiefs’ stadium gets rocking,” Edelman said. “There’s something about being the villain.”
