“A Big Blow”: New York Jets Star Lineman Receives Devastating News

The New York Jets have been preparing for their home opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers throughout the week. The team will continue to hold practices on Thursday and Friday. One competition to monitor throughout the game is the Steelers’ talented interior defensive line vs. the Jets’ relatively young but up-and-coming offensive line.

Unfortunately, one of their talented lineman sustained a concerning injury a few days ago.

Alijah Vera-Tucker suffered an apparent left arm injury during a one-on-one drill at Tuesday’s practice. Tests and an MRI on Wednesday confirmed a torn triceps, leading him to seek a second medical opinion to help him decide whether or not to undergo season-ending surgery. For context, Vera-Tucker sustained a torn triceps in his right arm during the 2022 season, which sidelined him for the final ten games.

According to Ian Rapoport, Alijah Vera-Tucker will undergo surgery to repair his torn triceps in his left arm. As a result, the former first-round pick is expected to miss the entire 2025 season, and the Jets will soon place him on injured reserve. This is devastating news for Vera-Tucker since he was having a great camp, was named a team captain, and was entering a contract year.

A big blow for the #Jets OL. AVT is hard to replace. But NYJ have center Joe Tippmann, who has played guard and Josh Myers, who has played guard and center. In addition, Chuks Okorafor, who has position flexibility. There are options. https://t.co/x75O3qj8at

The plan is for Josh Myers to start at center while Joe Tippmann shifts to right guard. Both players competed for the starting center job, but neither stood out, which is why the Jets have listed them in the OR section of their first unofficial depth chart of the regular season. The last time Tippmann played at right guard was in 2023, when he logged 199 snaps across four starts, with many scouts believing the former second-round pick is better suited at guard.
