Newcastle United youngster Will Osula saw a deadline-day move to Eintracht Frankfurt break down.
Denmark manager Brian Riemer has insisted Will Osula remains “super happy” despite his failed deadline-day move.
At one point, the 22-year-old appeared likely for a Newcastle United exit after Aston Villa and Eintracht Frankfurt made enquiries. The German club posed the more plausible option, with a loan-to-buy option on the cards.
Osula ultimately stayed at St James’ Park after Newcastle blocked a late approach. It later became known that Yoane Wissa’s arrival was on the ropes until the final seconds of the window - a possible reason for the U-turn.
Denmark manager speaks out
Speaking to the media ahead of their double-header against Scotland and Greece, Denmark boss Riemer claimed the noise around Osula has not affected him. The Toon prospect could be in line to make his first senior start after impressing for the under-21s over the summer.
“I don’t know what’s up and down, because it all happened very quickly on Monday,” Riemer said. “Suddenly he was on his way out of Newcastle, but then suddenly he wasn’t. I’ve only ever seen him as super happy, so I don’t think he has a problem with it not happening.
“I think he’s settled in well at Newcastle, and he’s probably had the best start to a season during his time at the club. Newcastle have sold and bought a few players, so we’ll have to see how his role ends up being.”
Eddie Howe on Will Osula
Eddie Howe praised Osula for his work rate despite an unconvincing performance at Leeds United last weekend. He told reporters: “I thought he worked really hard, I thought he was very good in different phases. Received a lot of balls to feet, linked play pretty well, held it up for us.
“I thought he had one big chance, if that was him towards half time, I could be wrong, where he’s had a shot blocked in and around the six-yard box. I think that was probably his best moment to score. He’s given his all for the team and that’s all you can ask.”

Speaking at the under-21s Euros, the forward admitted to needing more game time at club level. He said: “I just need playing time to show what I can do. It means something to me. I already know… Only myself and my father know what I can do. When playing time comes, everyone will see what I can do on the pitch.”
