Wolverhampton Wanderers chairman Jeff Shi has insisted that Vitor Pereira was in agreement over the club's decision not to sign a new midfielder on deadline day.
Earlier in the summer transfer window, Wolves gave the green light to Tommy Doyle and Boubacar Traore moving on loan to Birmingham City and Metz respectively.
With Andre and Joao Gomes remaining as the only two out-and-out central midfielders at Molineux, the expectation was that a recognised player for the engine room would arrive.
Instead, after being turned down by former Burnley star Josh Brownhill, the West Midlands outfit opted against strengthening in that position, much to the frustration of the club's fanbase.

Wolves chairman Shi speaks on transfer business
Speaking to the club's official website, Shi acknowledged that signing a central-midfielder had been under consideration, but 'bad luck' and Pereira agreeing to back out of making a late move for alternatives led to no further business being conducted.
"With midfield, of course we talk with Vitor a lot. If we were very lucky in the window, we could have signed one, Maybe we were not lucky because it is not always about us.
"Also, Vitor has high demands on the quality of the midfield. It's not like we sign someone for the sake of that, but we have cover for that position.
"So, the decision about midfield in the last two or three days, I spoke with Vitor a lot, almost every hour, and eventually it is a mutual decision to not sign one more midfielder.
"We keep the squad and try to find potential from the squad to cover that."

What are Wolves' midfield options?
As well as Andre and Gomes, the trio of Ladislav Krejci, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Marshall Munetsi will be viewed as competition for the two Brazil internationals.
However, Krejci has generally been used as a centre-back with Girona and Czech Republic of late, while Bellegarde and Munetsi have been deployed more often as one of two number 10s.
Bellegarde has already been handed opportunities alongside either Andre or Gomes this season, yet he has never fully convinced in the role.
With Wolves having made a net profit in the region of £13.5m across the summer transfer window, fans will hope that money will be available for at least one central-midfield addition during the winter market.
