New York Jets RG Alijah Vera-Tucker out for season with torn triceps

Sept. 4 (UPI) -- [New York Jets](https://www.upi.com/topic/New-York-Jets/) starting right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker will miss the 2025 NFL season due to a torn triceps, head coach Aaron Glenn told reporters Thursday.

Vera-Tucker sustained the injury at Tuesday's practice. Glenn said he expects a seven-month rehab for the 6-foot-5, 308-pound offensive lineman. He also said he is still evaluating who will take Vera-Tucker's place on the Jets' starting offensive line.

Vera-Tucker, the No. 14 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, started 43 games over his first four seasons, including 15 in 2024. [Pro Football Focus](https://premium.pff.com/nfl/positions/2024/REG/offense-blocking?position=G&minimum=50p) gave Vera-Tucker the 10th-best offensive rating among guards who were in for at least 50% of the maximum snaps played at the position last season.

He rated 11th as a run blocker and 10th as a pass blocker among qualifying players.

Xavier Newman was listed as the Jets' second-string right and left guard on their unofficial depth chart for Week 1. The Jets listed both Joe Tippmann and Josh Myers, who remain in competition, as their starting centers on their depth chart.

Max Mitchell, Chukwuma Okorafor and Esa Pole are among their other backup offensive lineman behind starting left tackle Olu Fashanu, left guard John Simpson and right tackle Armand Membou.

The Jets will host the Pittsburgh Steelers in their season opener at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J.
