The former Tottenham and Everton star is now a free agent having been released by Como FC
At one stage in his career, Dele Alli was the most promising talent in the Premier League. Whether it be his brace for Tottenham at Stamford Bridge, his three-touch wonder goal against Crystal Palace or his part in the MK Dons team that beat Manchester United 4-0 in the League Cup, the Englishman always looked destined for greatness.
As Birmingham signed Patrick Roberts on loan and Jack Robinson on a permanent deal on Deadline Day, the manager will now have to look into the free agent market if he wants further additions. Alli is currently a free agent after being released by Cesc Fabregas’ Como FC, however The Blues aren’t the only club to have been linked with the former England International, as EFL Championship rivals West Brom and Wrexham are also in the hunt.
‘No substance’ in Dele Alli to Blues rumours as update emerges
Despite the constant speculation around Alli’s future, a move to St Andrew’s looks to be off the cards. The former Tottenham man was released by Italian side, Como, but there’s no indication he’ll be headed to the Midlands. According to Football League World: “There appears to be no substance to the rumours sweeping social media that Dele Alli is set for a move to St. Andrew’s.
“The former England international is a free agent after leaving his latest club, Como, playing just once under Cesc Fabregas last season after his arrival in January 2025. Now 29 years of age, Alli hadn't played a professional match for over two years prior to his Como debut, with February 2023 being his last outing in his loan spell with Besiktas.
“Speculation centred on Davies making a move for the playmaker, but sources close to the club have insisted there is no deal in the offing for the ex-MK Dons and Tottenham man, who will have to try and re-ignite his past glories elsewhere.”
Plethora of EFL clubs still interested in Alli
While it looks unlikely that Alli will be moving to Birmingham, the free agent could well be headed elsewhere in the Championship to rejuvenate his career. Along with West Brom and Wrexham, second tier sides Swansea City and Blackburn Rovers could also be entering the transfer race.
Swansea City, who have just completed the £7.5m move for Adam Idah, now have the financial backing of AC Milan star, Luka Modric. According to Wales Online, the Real Madrid legend is ‘trying to use his reputation in the game to attract other players to the Swansea project’.
Whoever does sign Alli will be getting a man who has shown in the past he has world class abilities, however after being released by Cesc Fabregas after just one game, it would be a massive gamble.
