Former Boston Celtics forward goes off in EuroBasket after slow start

While France isn’t at full strength for the 2025 EuroBasket tournament, the country still features some notable NBA players on its roster. France is onto the 16-team knockout stages of the tourney as the team looks to build off its silver medal run in the 2024 Olympics last year.

Guerschon Yabusele has been one of France’s leading players through five group stage games. The former Celtics forward had a slow start to the tourney but he went off against Poland, putting up 36 points and 12-for-20 shooting, including 6-for-8 on 3-pointers.

He leads the French in scoring so far, averaging 14.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game thus far at EuroBasket. Yabusele had a slow start in his first three games before the 36-point game outburst, which upped his averages. Regardless, France will need Yabusele for however long their tournament continues.

France finished 4-1 in Group D play with the lone loss coming to Israel. The French are still waiting to see which position they finish in the group as games are still wrapping up. Regardless, France will play in the knockout stages of the tourney. The 16-team knockout stage starts this weekend.

Yabusele played with the 76ers last season in his NBA comeback, averaging 11.0 points and 5.6 rebounds in 70 games (43 starts). His stellar play in the Paris Olympics allowed him to sign a guaranteed deal with the Sixers, where he excelled in his NBA comeback.

Yabusele signed with the Knicks on a two-year contract this summer as he’ll be an important depth piece. New York’s looking to take the next step toward contender after its East Finals appearance last season. Yabusele figures to be part of the rotation as he brings size and shooting.
