Leicester City have completed the signing of Arsenal defender Cecily Wellesley-Smith on a season-long loan deal.
WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Foxes this evening.
The 18-year-old joined the Arsenal academy last summer and she has continued her development within the North Londoners’ Professional Game Academy League squad. Wellesley-Smith also spent some time with FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division club Oxford United last term.
On the international stage, Wellesley-Smith has represented England at Under-17 level and she will be aiming to progress to the next age group.
The player is in need of regular professional minutes at club level and she will now hope to get that in her time with Leicester City.
After joining Leicester City on loan, Wellesley-Smith said “I’m really excited. There are such great facilities and a great environment here and I just want to help the team do well. We’ll all be pushing together for good results.
“All the staff and the girls have been really welcoming, and I just can’t wait to get started now.”
Wellesley-Smith is Leicester City’s second Transfer Deadline Day addition. The Foxes have also added Australian international midfielder Emily van Egmond to their squad this afternoon.
