Davante Adams Speaks Out About Shift Into Leadership Role With Rams

The Los Angeles Rams moved on from one of their best players in recent history.

Cutting ties with Cooper Kupp was a big blow to the fans, but they already had a solid replacement in place.

Adding Davante Adams to the mix gave them another reliable pass-catcher who could potentially put up big numbers opposite Puka Nacua.

However, while he’s not expected to be the primary target there, his pedigree and experience in the league put him in a position to be a leader and a mentor.

When asked about that, the former Green Bay Packers star gushed about Nacua and the way he’s looked to pick his brain and learn from him:

“I kind of fell back and got in where I fit in, just for his comfortability,” Adams said. “And then, over time, starting in training camp, he (Nacua) actually made a comment that he wanted me to lead, so he can watch me. So, we ended up switching and going to that. It’s been a good experience watching the young guys. Puka’s just a young, humble player. He’s easy to get along with, so it makes the teaching process for me a lot easier.”

Puka Nacua is emerging as one of the league’s rising stars, and with Matthew Stafford at the helm, he can put up video game-like numbers in Sean McVay’s offense again.

Kupp wasn’t always at his best last season, which often allowed defenses to circle on Nacua.

That shouldn’t be the case this time around with Adams.

Granted, he’s not getting any younger and isn’t in his prime anymore, but he’s never relied on his speed to do his damage, and he still has some of the best hands in the game.

Moreover, getting to learn from multiple veteran stars will only help boost Nacua’s development, not only as a player but also as a leader.

The Rams are a strong candidate this season, and this one-two punch could be among the most entertaining to watch.
