'Not good' - Alan Shearer turns on Alexander Isak after Newcastle United x Liverpool saga

Alan Shearer is not impressed with former Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

Alan Shearer has slammed Alexander Isak for the lasting consequences his actions could have on football transfers.

In a parting shot while reflecting on the Newcastle United saga, the 55-year-old also had stern words for Yoane Wissa following his St James’ Park switch. Both players attracted criticism for how they pushed for moves - which eventually happened on deadline day - over the summer.

Newcastle were left reeling when Isak made his intentions clear to leave the club. The Swede had three years left on his Toon contract but downed tools to force a controversial exit.

Alexander Isak burned Newcastle United bridges

His actions over the window did not go down well on Tyneside. Newcastle’s passionate away fans made their voices heard at Villa park and Elland Road, leading to Isak’s position becoming untenable.

A banner was also displayed at St James' Park on deadline day, capturing just how opinion towards Isak - viewed as a club legend until recent events - had shifted. The 25-year-old addressed Newcastle fans a day after his Liverpool move was confirmed, although this was too little, too late for supporters.

Alan Shearer slams Alexander Isak

Toon icon Shearer believes Isak’s actions sets a dangerous precedent for transfers going forward. He told The Rest Is Football podcast: “Unfortunately, I think because of what’s happened with Isak and what’s happened with Wissa, then you will see more (players refusing to play).

“I don’t like it, I don’t think any fan likes it, and I can’t say because of the Isak situation. I also have to mention the Wissa situation and him going to Newcastle, I don’t like what the players have done.

“It’s not a good look for football, but unfortunately, I think because of those two, getting their moves, particularly the Isak one, because that’s been more high profile than anything I can ever remember, then players will look at that and think if he or they did it, then I can do it.”

Alan Shearer on Nick Woltemade

Shearer also discussed the “big ask” Woltemade has on his hands to replace the 27-goal striker. He added: “Woltemade, I think, it can be a really clever signing. But it also comes with a risk because, ultimately, he’s probably had seven or eight months of good football.

“He’s not scored a lot of goals, not got great experience. Unfortunately, Newcastle are always going to have to pay over the limit because there’s a Saudi price now.”

“It could turn out to be a really clever signing. Bayern Munich were after him, top scorer in the Euros for the under-21s. Potential, absolutely, but it’s a big, big ask for him to go in and lead the line as Newcastle’s No.9 for the next season or two. I’m not saying he can’t do it, but it’s a big ask.”
