Barcelona Forward Joins Liverpool on Loan Before Deadline

Barcelona forward Emilia Szymczak has signed a loan deal with Liverpool for the [2025/26 season](https://womenfootball.blog/womens-super-league-table-standings/). At just 19 years old, she is regarded as one of Barça’s most promising attacking prospects. Several clubs had shown interest in the Polish striker, but Liverpool secured the deal ahead of the deadline.

The move is not financially motivated. Sporting director Marc Vivés explained that both the club and the player agreed the priority was for Szymczak to take the next step in her development and gain valuable first-team experience at the highest level. So far, she has played for Barcelona B and featured at senior level in the Copa Catalunya and during pre-season.

On the international stage, Szymczak has made 14 appearances for Poland, including at the Women’s EURO 2025 in Switzerland and in the Women’s Nations League. She will wear the No. 6 shirt at Liverpool.

“It’s amazing to be here. This is a big club and I’m so happy to be a part of it. I just felt Liverpool has a bright future and I know the WSL and this league is so strong, and I know I can develop more as a player here and try, and the club can offer me the best.”

**To the fans**: “I can’t wait to see all of you on Sunday and at all of the games. I just want to assure you that I will give everything for the group and everything to make you happy.”

Emma Sanders reports that Alejandra Bernabé has agreed a permanent move from Chelsea to Liverpool. The defender spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan with the Reds.

Bernabé joined Chelsea in the summer of 2023 from Atlético Madrid. She made two appearances for the Blues last season — her WSL debut against Leicester City in December and a Women’s League Cup tie against Durham.
