Delta Center’s lower bowl to feature clear view of all action with new riser system
What Smith Entertainment Group and the Utah Mammoth were able to accomplish last season was remarkable.
After the team relocated from Arizona in April, SEG conquered a nearly impossible task of hosting a combined 82 NHL and NBA home games at the Delta Center amidst a chaotic schedule.
However, as an arena built for basketball, SEG worked tremendously fast this offseason in order to complete phase 1 of their new renovations and begin upgrading the venue to fully accommodate both sports.
With approximately five months to get the job done, the lower bowl is now nearing completion as a new state-of-the-art riser system has been installed to provide every seat with a clear view of the action regardless of the event.
Beginning with the floor, SEG raised the playing surface by two feet to better accommodate all sightlines in the arena.
From there, they installed risers behind both ends in order to maintain proximity for basketball, while also having enough space to go out for hockey games.
As opposed to the typical NBA risers that stand roughly six-feet-tall and only move forward-and-back, the new Delta Center risers are 12-feet-tall with the ability to move in multiple directions.
“In total, 80 risers will be utilized for basketball and 68 for hockey. The risers in the end zones move both side-to-side and up-and-down to create an unprecedented seating experience for NBA and NHL games, ensuring every fan in the lower bowl has a clear view of the action,” Smith Entertainment Group announced.
As fans prepare to return to the Delta Center this fall, the lower bowl risers and other major construction in phase 1 will be completed for the 2025-26 season.
“This allows us to literally press a button and have a different configuration each night for concerts, for the Olympics, and for everything else that’s coming,” Ryan Smith said.
Approximate capacity for Utah Jazz games will be 19,000 while the Mammoth will be able to seat 17,000.
