Bears Connected to Intriguing Trade With Jaguars

The Chicago Bears surprised a whole lot of people when they took Michigan tight end Colston Loveland with the 10th overall pick of the NFL Draft back in April.

Not only was Penn State's Tyler Warren — widely seen as the best tight end prospect in the class — on the board, but the Bears also did not have a pressing need at the position thanks to the presence of Cole Kmet.

Nevertheless, Chicago selected Loveland, which has absolutely placed Kmet on notice heading into the 2025 season.

Kmet has been the subject of trade speculation throughout the offseason, but the Bears have opted to hold onto him thus far. That could change between now and the November deadline, though, and Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox has placed Kmet on his trade big board before Week 1.

Knox also mentioned the Jacksonville Jaguars as a potential destination, which makes sense considering the Jaguars cut Evan Engram after 2024.

"A lot will depend on whether Loveland keeps Kmet from having a significant role in Chicago—as Brock Bowers did to former second-round pick Michael Mayer in Las Vegas," Knox wrote. "The Bears, though, can expect a much stronger trade package than what the Raiders might expect for Mayer."

Knox placed a fifth-round value on Kmet, and you have to think Jacksonville would definitely be intrigued by the possibility of parting with Day 3 pick for the former second-rounder.

Kmet had a down year last season, catching 47 passes for 474 yards and four touchdowns. However, the campaign prior, he hauled in 73 receptions for 719 yards and six scores and appeared to be an ascending player.

Of course, the 26-year-old can surely expect his targets to decrease this fall due to the addition of Loveland, which could absolutely make Kmet expendable.

It's also worth noting that Kmet is under contract through 2027, so if the Jaguars did trade for him, they wouldn't just be getting a rental.
